My Book

I started out the year new in art because it was my first year taking that elective. It seemed as though everyone knew what they we doing and I was just a step behind. I eventually learned to quicken my tasks and I was able to fit right in. Being the quick worker I am, I've accomplished many things and I've learned to paint, shade, and smooth art the right way. I have definitely improved a lot and I really enjoyed taking this class! It has been such an experience and I hope to take it again so more improvement can be done!

Expressive Time Capsule

Being a first grader once at Van Sciver we had a time capsule that we got to place one memorable item in. I don't remember what exactly I placed in there but that is the point. Now I am doing a time capsule again but this time it definitely has more meaning. Inside of this time capsule you will find art pieces of mine that I worked on this year. There was most definitely progress from the beginning of the year to now. I'm a very quiet worker and can easily get the things that I need done, completed. Also you will find letters of mine and notes from friends just talking about things that happened a couple months ago. Placed items in this box has made me see the change and maturity in me coming out. As the year is coming to an end I will not be able to open this until years from now. It should be a great surprise and I can't wait to see how theses items look long from now.

A summer night

The slow moving water had a reflection of the crescent moon and shinning stars. The summer night was quiet with music playing softly as it became later. My eyes had been set on one thing and one thing only, the most prettiest hazel eyes I've ever seen. The warm water moved around us as we sat on floats at the center of the pool. Mouths kept quiet as we stared at each other with smiles on our faces.
The silence was broken with giggles from me as I got lifted up and carried around the pool. That didn't last very long only because I was tickled and thrown away from the center. I remember floating back up to the top and hearing the water hit the rocks outside the pool. I took water in my hands and splashed him with it making him laugh.
The night got darker and the chill of the summer air started to pick up. It was time for me to go in and for him to go home. But every night was spent that way and the next day would be the same. We picked right back up where we left off the night before and just continued.

Fortune Cookie

First off who doesn't like fortune cookies?! This whole project was awesome! Picking an idea from seven fortunes was really different but so cool. Every fortune can mean something different to everyone else but what you think of it matters most. Creating something with one fortune was fun and could lead into something really special. I enjoyed doing this a lot and having my fortune hidden in its own way.

Art x3

This project was by far really fun and unique. Starting out with one idea then switching papers and creating another was cool. The whole time it kept you on top of your feet because you could see something completely different than someone else. Changing someone else's art was fun because it was a different feel and the result after the three switches was really awesome.

Pop Art

Pop Art was a fun way to be creative and let yourself go without having to worry much about how exactly something will look. Little details that could be mistakes may look really cool in the end when any copies are made. Making copies of these stamps were awesome and could be done anyway with any color paper and ink.

My collection is not that hard if you knew me well enough. Being a dancer and having sore feet tends to build a pile of broken no good shoes that become an art from the past. These pointe shoes in the picture are not mine but that is how I feel as a dancer. Especially after 14 years. Ballet is still a beautiful way to express yourself and will or has not gotten old. It is still very classical and always will be. My interests are dance and anything dance related. Dance helps me find myself and it is an art by just using my feet to describe how I feel.

What my collection reveals

Our collection had a variety of ages and years. From teens to adults. Using every day objects to create an art that is not art. All of our interests are in the collection from different every day things we use to toys that we had as kids. Sports, school subjects and other things are involved as well. We have created something unique and were inspired by Portia Munson.

First and Second Drawing Comparison

With these two drawings there is a big difference. The first one is clearly a bike but I feel it's not as real as it should look. Personally I feel that using just different kinds of sketch pencils is hard for me to make objects look real. Colors help me see what I actually see in front of me and help guide me through what is really there. I like being able to use color to see how we'll the end result will look. Now I know that the candy jar is only drawing number two but I feel that the jar looks much better and is a very big improvement for my drawings. I love the way it came out and I learned that shading takes a lot of time. Layer of color after layer after layer and so on gives you the color that you truly need but you have to be patient.

Candy in a Jar

For me as being a first time artist like this, I prefer to shade with colors. I have a better feel of what I'm doing and how well things are going to come out. I love the way other colors are used to make lighter or darker shades of a specific color. It gives the drawing a bigger variety of details and makes it so much more realistic. Using colors is such a great way to show how you feel about something too. I don't get bored using colors because it gives your eyes something to stare at. The real jar of candy is to the left and my drawing is to the right. My drawing seems really well detailed and the colors make it pop. This experience was great, and I would love to always use color with my drawings.

Bicycle Drawing

You may think that drawing a bicycle is easy, but its not at all. Not even in the slightest bit. Looking at one section of the bike and picturing how you are going to place it on the white sheet is difficult. Your eyes see one thing but your hand doesnt seem to feel it on the paper. Not everything that your eye sees will come out on the paper like you expected. Shading and coloring are two completely different things. I learned that while creating my bike drawing. Shading is what gives a drawing the depth that it needs to look real. With a bike you need to make the tires look like tires and not round black circles and all the metals need to look like metals not like gray rectangular looking shapes. The different shades of the pencils I used helped to create the realistic-ness of a bike. In the very first picture below you can see how just a regular pencil doesn't do much for a picture, but the different types of pencils used in the second picture give the bike what it needs to look real. These are the before and after pictures.

Welcome to my blog!

Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Abigail, Abby for short. I'm a dancer and cheerleader that loves to use her body to express herself. Art to me seems the same way, although I dont get to use my body I get to use colors and textures that express the mood I'm in. Whether happy, sad or angry the painting on the white paper at the end of the day will always be beautiful. Enjoy my art, they have great meaning.
